Die Tür zu schliessen, wenn die Anzahl der Klopfenden zunimmt, und diese einfach draussen stehen zu lassen, ist unklug, kindisch und unüberlegt. Die Augen zu schliessen, die Ohren zuzuhalten und dazu zu schweigen bringt garantiert nicht weiter. Die grosse Mehrzahl der Flüchtenden, die ich im ärztlichen Notdienst erlebe, sind gestresste, erschöpfte Menschen, die nicht wissen, wohin und vage Hoffnungen haben. Sie verdienen zumindest einen angemessenen Empfang. Kann es so schwierig sein, in gesamteuropäischer Kooperation die Registrierung und Verteilung zu organisieren, dort, wo die Menschen ankommen? Tränengas, Wasserwerfer und Stacheldraht werden nur denen, die die Not für ihre Zwecke nutzen, sei es zu terroristischen Aktivitäten oder schlicht zum eigenen Profit, in die Hände spielen. Wahrnehmen, anhören, ernst nehmen ist vor allem anderen die erste Pflicht. Es scheint, dass das Konzept Europa bislang nicht viel mehr ist als ein Arbeitstitel.
To close the door, when those, who ask for entrance, multiply, and to leave them alone outside is inadequate and unwise. To shut the eyes, pretend to be deaf and keep out of the discussion will not lead anywhere. The wide majority of refugees are stressed and exhausted, don’t know where to live and have only vage expectations of their future. At least they deserve to be seen and heard. Can it really be so difficult to organize registration and distribution in an all-european act at those borders, where they arrive? Tear-gas, water and barbed wire will only strengthen those who profit from the suffering – either in recruiting terrorists or simply make money. To realize, to listen, to take seriously is the duty of today. Sometimes it looks like the concept of Europe is not more then a rough sketch.
