African Lady III

Eine der kleinen Ladies im Dorf an einem der Eingänge des inneren Begrenzungsrings. Die Tore, die  ins Dorf  hineinführen, sind so niedrig, damit eventuelle Feinde, sich bückend, nur langsam hineingelangen können. Zwei Wälle aus Akazienholz gibt es, die Tür ist jeweils ein Baum, den man nach innen am Stamm hineinzieht. Von aussen ist dann die stachelige Mauer komplett.

One of the smaller ladies of the village, standing at one of the doors of the inner wall of acacia-wood, that is surrounding the circle of huts. Enemies, who want to come inside, will have to kneel down and therefore be slow. A tree, that is pulled inside, completes the prickly wall of defense.

African Lady II

Eine der wichtigen Frauen im Dorf, geschmückt zum Fest: eine der jungen Frauen ist schwanger und die Angehörigen aus dem Nachbardorf sind mit einigen Ziegen als Gabe angekommen. Die Zahnlücke ist kein Zeichen für die Unerreichbarkeit  einer ordentlichen  Zahnarztpraxis, sondern ein Schönheitsmerkmal, das bewusst herbeigeführt wird.

One of the important ladies of the village, here she wears her festivity clothes. The celebration takes place because a young woman of her village got pregnant and the relatives from the neighborhood arrived, bringing some goats as a gift. The gap between her front teeth is not a sign for no dentist being around, but it counts as a sign of beauty.

Diese ältere Dame aus Uganda freute sich über die Fotografin, die gar nicht so sicher war, ob ihre Knipserei willkommen ist.  „Wir dachten schon, du hättest keinen Foto dabei“, meinten sie. Sie sind stolz auf ihr Dorf, ein bizarres Kunstwerk aus Holz.

This elderly lady was proud to be on the picture while I was not so sure if my taking pictures was welcome at all. “ We wondered, if you had forgotten the camera!“ the ladies said and laughed. The village itself is a work of art….
